Star Fighter Cockpit

A star fighter cockpit. I went for a design somewhere between Star Wars and Spaceman Spiff :)

Boulder Break Room

Recently I've had comments from people that background artists don't have a lot of backgrounds on their blogs. So being the Junior Vice President of our background department I thought I should lead by example. Here is one I did up of our beloved break room in Boulder Media. You will notice that I took some liberty with colours and also that it's a lot cleaner than usual. More on the way hopefully :)

Was messing about with manga studio doing a bit of line work this evening. This is what I ended up with.

Man Rug

Ok so its not perfect by any means and any constructive criticism is welcome but here's a one page comic I had an idea for ages ago and finally got to put together over the last few weeks. Hopefully you'll get a chuckle out of it :)

Birthday Cat

Picture of a cat I did for my friend Aine's birthday. She got a lot of very pretty pictures as presents. Hope this one fits in with the rest.

Polar Bear

Pic I did of a Polar Bear for the Animation Art Show. Its all for a good cause so was nice to do something. Hopefully it will make a few bob for the chosen charities.

Honey Badger

Picture I did for the Boulder Media art blog. Always fun to see what different themes come up and how people visualise them. Also reminds me how great and inspirational it is to work with such a talented group of people.

Mulan

Did this up from a sketch I did after Louise brought her pet praying mantis Mulan into work. It's a more cartoony version of her. Sadly she's passed away since but mantis don't live that long so was nice to see her and watch her suck all the guts out of a live cricket while she was about :)

News splash - Aung San Suu Kyi

So Aung San Suu Kyi was over visiting our shores and a lot of other shores too. I love the way people like her and Nelson Mandela just have so much positivity to them after the hardships they've been through. Its very inspiring. Sketch might not be exactly like her but close enough I hope.

Spread the love

Another screen print I did in my course. Kinda slapped this together but came out well in the end me thinks.

Frandy Warhol

Did a screen printing course there which was great fun. Used the last image I posted for my final project and printed it in some different colours and on different paper. Came out well I thought. Hopefully get to do more in the future. Really enjoyed it.

Hairy Horror

After seeing this music video for DyE I did a few sketches of manga influenced horror creatures but nothing ever came of it. Got a new tablet today and digitally doodled for the first time in a while. Seemed to go back down that horror road so here's a creepy situation I'll never have to worry about : )

Show me the Munny

I bought a Munny model called a Foomi in forbidden planet the other day. He has crazy hair and at first I thought I'd do a yu gi oh type character but then I thought some of the hair could be horns so turned him into a little devil...with a toothbrush. The black marker I used applied fine but the red marker you got with it was a bit crap. Still it ended up leaving a kind of melted texture which I thought looked pretty cool given the demonish character. Was fun and must try another soon.

Fire and Flatulence

So. Happy Halloween! This doesn't really have anything to do with halloween. Just a farting dragon I did up from a doodle in my sketchbook. Don't ask me where it came from. My mind is a strange place sometimes. First finished piece I've done in a good while. Pretty happy with it. All the best!

The trials and tribulations of Fran

Okay so nearly been a year since I posted anything and not gonna apologise its just that sometimes life gets in the way and you can't do anything about it. Anyway I always thought the best thing about my job was that I was surrounded by really talented and inspirational people and recently we've had a whole new batch of said people come work with us and I think they're enthusiasm has restarted my arty engine again so hopefully there will be more posts and although I'm starting off again here with a pretty simply toned sketch I'll hopefully get some more finished stuff up again too. Particularly like to link you to Rebecca and Niamh's blogs which I was looking at this morning and whose sketches made me want to do my own. check em out. more soon. Rafter.

Anxiety

Trying to do more topical pictures so here's one I've had in the sketchbook for a while. Tried a few different ways of finishing it off but sometimes the simplest style suits.

Catching some Zzzz

Fell asleep on the train for the first time in ages last week. Luckily enough though my internal alarm clock woke me up just before the stop.

Ladies Day

The Galway Races are on the bank holiday weekend and I'm expecting to see lots of hats like this on the front of the Metro and the Herald so thought I'd do one up myself for the blog.

Seasick Fran

Was just thinking the other day how great it would be to be able to play the banjo.
